5000 is an extensive general reference resource providing access to over 10,050 publications, with more than 5,860 of those in full text. users find all types of information included in the following ten (10) multidisciplinary  databases:

Basic Seach

  • Enter a word, or a specific phrase in the search field. Exmple: Nursing, Engineering.
  • Specify a date range, using the drop down date range menu.
  • Restrict articles to full text articles, by checking the box next to the full text.
  • Restrict articles to scholarly journals by checking the box marked Scholarly Journals, including peer reviewed.

Advanced Search  (complex searches)

  • Type a word or phrase in the first search field. If you’re combining your search with additional terms, select Boolean operators (AND, OR, AND NOT) to join additional search parameters.

Example: Nursing Care and Health Care.

  • Use date range lists to limit publications dates.
  • Restrict articles to full text articles by checking the box next to full text.
  • Click search.

Topic Guide enables you to find articles by searching index, or by exploring a hierarchical subject directory.

  • Enter a word and click “find term”. A list of subltopics appears.

  • Click the subtopic that most closely matches your area of interest. When you have found a subject you are interested in, click on view articles.

Publication Search makes it easy for you to browse your favorite magazines or newspaper and allows you to look for a specific publication or to look at all articles in a particular issue of a magazine, journal, or newspaper.

  • Type the magazines, newspaper or journal title.

Example: Harvard Review, New York Times.

  • Click search. A list of publications matching your search appears.
  • Click the publication to see a list of available issue.

Browse Topic (go to: Basic and Advanced Search tab) You may use this link if you want to search for a company, people and location.

Marked List allows you to save and send articles to your email-address from your searches.

  • Articles and Bibliograhy Tab allows you to print a bibiograhy and email or export several articles at once.
  • My Research Summary Tab enables you to use links to articles and publications, as well as searches you have run to ceate web pages.

Example: SARS

  • Using the Basic Search, type the word “SARS”
  • Under the result list click on the square boxes on the left side of every articles you wanted to “mark or save”.
  • Go to Marked List Tab.
  • Click the Research Summary.
  • Click download link to get the article and convert it
  • Go to File Menu, save as, and assign a file name for the page that you will create and decide where to save the file (floppy, hard disk, or CD.)
